Silver Nanoplate Composites as Nonlinear Saturable Absorbers for a Q-Switched Laser

Metal nanomaterials have promising applications in ultrafast photonics due to their broadband operation, large third-order nonlinear susceptibility, and recovery time. We realized a Q-switched pulsed erbium-doped fiber laser based on silver nanoplate polyvinyl alcohol film as saturable absorber. This film, with modulation depth of 15.7%, was integrated into by means sandwich structure. obtained pulses the 1.5-μm band, which plays an important role telecommunications atmospheric detection. Stable were at pump power 135 mW, single pulse energy 33.8 nJ, width 2.3 μs, repetition rate 62.4 kHz, signal-to-noise ratio about 45 dB. When increasing up maximum value 246 57.8 nJ achieved. study first demonstrates potential nanoplates absorbers generating stable high energy.

A low-loss semiconductor saturable absorber based on InGaAs quantum wells was developed for highly efficient Q switching of a diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser operating at 1123 nm.
